10 Apr 2025

Botho College Boxing Club will on Saturday host the next edition of the monthly Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) sanctioned tournament at the institution’s multipurpose hall.

In an interview BoBA vice president-technical, Boitumelo Taolo said shortly after the Zone IV matches in Mozambique the association was expecting highly charged bouts to be fought at the tournament, which would be used as preparatory matches for the upcoming regional and continental championships.

He emphasised that preparations would be adequately conducted to allow boxers to approach both the national and continental challenges adequately prepared.

The national team’s next international assignment is the AUSC region 5 tournament in Namibia in June.

Taolo said the team had just been dismissed from camp where they took part in the Zone IV tournament in Mozambique and performed well despite sending a small contingent.

Botswana finished in second place, while Lesotho took the last place on the podium. Seychelles came in fourth place, while eSwatini finished in fifth and last place.

Meanwhile, fists are expected to fly thick and fast on Saturday afternoon as some of the top drawer bouts are lined up for the tournament.

In an exciting 48kg battle, Kobamelo Molatlhegi of DTCB Boxing Club will face off with the hard-hitting University of Botswana Boxing club’s youngster, Katlego Keorapetse.

The two have established themselves to be a cut above the rest in their weight division and a meeting between them is undoubtedly expected to be explosive.

Another highly anticipated clash is the 67kg showdown between George Molwantwa of Police Boxing Club and Kago Raokgwathile of 125 Boxing Club.

It will be an interesting rematch between the two as they previously faced off in a recent best of the best tournament at the Molapo Piazza and Molwantwa emerged seriously bruised.

In an exciting elite women match, Phekie Bhele of Diamond Boxing Club will likely square up against Gift Modise, who scooped silver in Maputo in the Zone IV.

Another interesting duel is in the 60kg division where Keobakeng Phillip of Francistown will face off Dorcas Thabologo of the Diamond boxing stable. ENDS
