10 Apr 2025
Jwaneng Galaxy has risen to the top of the FNB Premiership for the first time this season after registering a 3-2 victory over Union Flamengo Santos at the Galaxy Stadium yesterday evening.
Namibian midfielder Dynamo Fredericks opened the scoring in the 11th minute to give the home's side an early lead, but Kobamelo Kebaikanye leveled matters eight minutes later for the struggling Gabane based team.
Both teams continued showing determination in the competitive encounter, and Galaxy regained the lead in the 34th minute through their star striker Thabang Sesinyi. However, Santos responded quickly with a well-placed shot from midfielder Tshepo Motlhabane leveling the score at 2-2 just before halftime.
The second half saw both teams pushing for the winning goal, but it was Galaxy which ultimately prevailed. In the 89th minute, a brilliant solo effort from Fredericks led to his second goal of the match which sealed the victory for Galaxy.
With this win, Galaxy not only claimed the top spot in the FNB Premiership but also demonstrated their resilience and championship pedigree. They will be looking to build on this momentum as they aim for the title in the remaining fixtures. The atmosphere was electric in Jwaneng as supporters celebrated the victory and expressed pride in their team's performance.
The victory took Galaxy's points tally to 48, while Santos has a paltry nine points in 16th position. Gaborone United joined Galaxy on 48 points after edging 1-0 past Chadibe FC at Francistown Council Stadium yesterday, but are down on second place through an inferior goal defence compared to Galaxy.
At the Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng, TAFIC and Township Rollers shared the spoils after a goal less draw, which means they all have 46 points after 24 matches played. TAFIC now occupies third spot while Rollers is sitting on fourth position. The next six matches remaining in the league will be exciting as teams get closer to snatching the P1.4 million prize money.
