Picnic promises joyous celebrations

The iconic Mahotella Queens will be  one of the headlining acts for the seventh edition of the African Attire On Fleek picnic. 

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Bojanala Waterfront, promising an immersive celebration of African culture through music and fashion. 

The Annual African Attire On Fleek picnic is known for its vibrant display of African pride, showcasing the richness of cultural attire and musical performances. The inclusion of the legendary Mahotella Queens, celebrated for their contribution to the mbaqanga genre, epitomises the rhythm and beat central to the cultural pride that the event represents.

Over the years, the picnic has blended traditional African sounds with contemporary Afro soul music, curating a diverse lineup that captures the essence of joy and celebration in every performance. 

Mahotella Queens will share the stage with Botswana’s esteemed traditional music legends, including Ditiro Leero, Matsieng, Dikakapa, Machesa, and Culture Spears. 

The lineup also features influential artists such as Mma Ausi and Dr Vom, whose impact on the contemporary traditional music scene has been profound.

Adding to the day’s excitement, Kabelo ‘Skavenja’ Tiro will enchant the audience with his captivating dance moves.

Afro tech sensation Issa Sisdoh is also set to delight attendees with her spiritually uplifting lyrical beats.

The event will be hosted by MC Alpha and will feature an array of talented acts from South Africa, including the legendary Platform One group, Mawelele, and Kgotso Makgalema. From Lesotho, wave Rhyder and Sannere will also perform, complemented by local colourful DJs spinning tracks to enhance the festive atmosphere.

David ‘52’ Letshwiti, the event organiser, expressed his enthusiasm for the impressive lineup: “The lineup is exceptional entertainment, not only featuring local talents but also thoughtfully selecting the best from outside the country. 

Letshwiti has encouraged revelers to don their finest African outfits, emphasising that the event is a celebration of both African fashion and music. ENDS
