Botswana's promising tennis player, Seabo Saleshando has proceeded to the next round of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) U18 Gaborone J30 tournament after defeating Zimbabwe’s Anotipa Ghigudu 6-2, 6-2 in Gaborone yesterday.
Saleshando said in a post match interview that he had a slow start but he was happy that he managed to pick his rhythm and won his first game.
“I’m still happy with my performance, and winning the first game was very important to me as I knew it will motivate me to go all the way,” he said.
Furthermore, he said he played against a very tough opponent who was able to serve well most of the time.
About the next game, he said the most important thing would be to remain calm and concentrate so that he applied himself to the fullest.
In another game, Katlego Regoeng, who was coming back from an injury lost 6-1, 6-0 to South Africa’s Eithian Pieber.
During the game, it was evident that Regoeng did not have a lot of options as his opponent was taking the balls early pushing him about two metres away.
Regoeng said in an interview that despite returning from an injury, he was mentally prepared, but it was not his day.
He said he started the game well, as he got multiple deuces, but was not able to capitalise on something, which he would try to rectify at training.
Other Botswana tennis players, Tyson Anderson lost 6-2, 6-2 to South Africa’s Mbali Ndlabu, while Reagile Diraditsile was beaten 6-0, 6-3 by Matel Sucu of Romania. ENDS
