Matebele FC's Moses Shidolo emerged as the hero for his club by scoring a late winner to enhance their chances of securing a top eight finish in the FNB Premiership.
The match which was played at Lobatse Sports Complex this afternoon saw Matebele defeat Extension Gunners 3-2 in an intense battle.
The first half was characterised by tenacity from both teams, with Matebele generating several scoring opportunities but failing to convert. Meanwhile, Gunners seized one of their limited chances through Pako Modikwa to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the break Matebele made a strategic substitution, bringing on Namibian winger Stoffel Witbeen who revitalised their attacking play. The change paid off, as a corner kick executed by Thobo Seeleko leveled the match at 1-1 shortly into the second half.
Gunners responded swiftly with Modikwa scoring again, putting them back in the lead at 2-1 with a well placed header from a free-kick. However, Matebele's determination propelled them forward, and in the 66th minute, captain Moses Shidolo found the net with a precise shot, leveling the match 2-2.
Towards the final whistle, a foul on Witbeen inside the penalty area led to a penalty kick for Matebele. Shidolo confidently stepped up and converted the spotkick in the dying moments of the game, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory.
The win propelled Matebele FC to 29 points, placing them in 9th position on the league table, just one point shy of 8th place Orapa United. ENDS
