Lucara Botswana, a longstanding supporter of the Miss World Botswana Organisation, has handed over a sponsorship cheque of P500 000 to the pageant brand.
The sponsorship marks the continuation of their strategic partnership. For Lucara Managing Director Ms Naseem Lahri, the renewal of this partnership aims to empower and uplift young Batswana women through the Miss World Botswana initiative.
Addressing the attendees during the hand-over at Gaborone International Convention Centre today, including Miss World Botswana Anicia Gaothusi, Miss Botswana Ruth Thomas, 1st Princess Selwana Motsemeng, and 2nd Princess Girlie Kookilwe, Ms Lahri highlighted the pageant’s growing success.
“We have watched our journey with Miss World Botswana growing from strength to strength. A significant moment in history was when Lesego Chombo walked the ramp with Botswana’s diamond on the world stage,” said Lahri, who emphasised that Lucara’s relationship with Miss World Botswana was focused on developing impactful, sustainable projects, particularly those that targeted the value chain.
“We aim to diversify our impact and support entrepreneurs in their growth. From the makeup artists and hairstylists to the fashion designers working behind the scenes, they all need a platform to shine,” she added.
Ms Lahri commended the pageant stars for putting Botswana on the international map and for making a meaningful difference with their initiatives. She also presented Gaothusi with a P50 000 cheque for her Beauty With A Purpose initiative, called "Lights," while emphasising that the nation was looking to her to elevate Botswana to even greater heights.
Miss World Botswana Director, Mr Benjamin Raletsatsi affirmed that the renewed partnership represented another milestone in improving Botswana's economy.
“Miss Botswana has become a formidable organisation, contributing to notable youth employment. Currently, 13 youth are actively working for the organisation,” Raletsatsi said.
He celebrated second runner-up Kookilwe's success in securing a job through her "Beauty With A Purpose" project, as well as Lesego Chombo’s rise to becoming a minister, both of which highlighted the pageant’s lasting impact.
While Gaothusi’s departure for the Miss World stage remains unannounced, the pageant queen expressed excitement about the journey ahead and declared her determination to bring the crown home.
“I can’t wait to show you what I can do,” Gaothusi said. “I’m ready for Miss World, and I’m bringing the crown home.” ENDS
