Ko Tamong Serenade soothes the soul in Gamoleele Dam

Afro Vibe, a collective of young creatives determined to make their mark in the entertainment scene, continues to put forth impressive efforts despite facing some setbacks.
After a successful inaugural live recording event at Gamoleele Dam in February, the group decided to host a second instalment of their Ko Tamong Serenade show in response to popular demand. Sharing his thoughts on the low attendance this time around, coordinator of the event Joseph Ntshonyane said although extensive marketing efforts were undertaken, a number of competing events in Molepolole led to a less than ideal turnout.
“We weren’t discouraged, because we know that our work speaks for itself,” said Ntshonyane.
Even with a smaller crowd, he said the energy and vibe were incredible. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the crowd was receptive.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the people and deliver the best entertainment we can offer,” he stressed.
Ntshonyane further said they were not measuring success by the sheer number of attendees alone. He further expressed their understanding of the delicate ecosystem around the dam and the need to be responsible stewards of the environment. By keeping the event manageable in size, “we minimize the potential for harm while still ensuring an unforgettable experience for those in attendance,” he said.
In addition, he said their primary focus was to showcase their unique sound and the talent of their performers through live recordings, which they then share online to reach a wider audience.
“It’s about building our reputation and growing our following in a sustainable way,” he said.
The attendees, thrilled by the laid-back atmosphere and unique location, had nothing but praise for the event.
“You can’t find an event like this anywhere else,” remarked one enthusiastic guest Ms Masego Modisane.
"Being surrounded by the beauty of Gamoleele Dam, breathing in the fresh air, and listening to the live music, it’s like being transported to a different world. You can connect with nature and your friends in a way that just isn’t possible at other concerts,” she said.
“The event is therapeutic. You can forget about all your troubles for a while and just be present. The combination of the outdoors, the water, and the music is perfect for relaxing and enjoying yourself. It’s not about being a big event, it’s about creating a special experience,” another visitor Mr John Kaelo said.
This edition of the event saw the spotlight shine brightly on local acts from Molepolole. Accompanied by a picturesque backdrop and fun activities, the line-up for the live recording session included DJ Bux, Heavens Harmonic Live Band and DJ Shift.
The main act, Afro Vibe, was cherry on top of an already delectable entertainment cake. Their signature sound, an eclectic blend of traditional African rhythms and contemporary beats, filled the air, creating a perfect harmony with the surroundings.
As the day unfolded, the crowd was treated to various fun activities, further enhancing their enjoyment. Those seeking a more peaceful and serene experience could opt for a calming boat ride, while adrenaline-seekers could rev up their excitement with a thrilling quad bike adventure.
The final Ingredient for the perfect day was the option to host a picnic with friends, surrounded by lush greenery and the tranquil waters of Gamoleele Dam. This according to the organisers demonstrated that the essence of the event was not only about entertainment, but also about connecting with nature and one another. ENDS
