Rollers to honour Paparampa
30 Mar 2025
The Township Rollers FC family was in Metsimotlhabe over the weekend at the home of loyal and ardent supporter, David Sekgee popularly known as Paparampa in local football circles, to donate food hampers.
Speaking on behalf of Rollers management when handing food hampers to the Sekgee family club spokesperson, Pako Lebanna said the team would engage in a more concrete innovate project to honour those who built the club such as Paparampa.
“Next time, we will be here handing over a house maybe for those who built this brand such as Paparampa who has supported this team all his life,” he said.
He said Rollers had been close to Paparampa’s heart for most of his life having walked from Bontleng to the National Stadium during his formative years, then Gaborone West to the stadium before finally retracting to Metsimotlhabe owing to ill health.
“Down the years, he has been fortunate enough to have experienced the joys and sorrow but mostly joy behind supporting his favourite team and we want to honour his loyalty,” said Lebanna.
He said Rollers would in due course announce a more concrete corporate social responsibility initiative to support Paparampa among other beneficiaries.
In addition to donating groceries, sleeve blankets and household item hampers to Paparampa and his sister, Pauline Sekgee, Rollers management and supporters engaged in a debushing and cleaning activity of his residence.
Lebanna said the club had made an initial visit last weekend for a familiarisation and assessment tour.
“A decision was made to bring along fellow supporters to spend the day with Paparampa and for the club to share groceries with him. The longer term objective is to invest in something more concrete as Rollers’ lasting contribution to Paparampa, but this can only be revealed after all plans are finalised internally,” he added.
On behalf of the family, Pauline Sekgee said Rollers had shown love and compassion toward her and her brother.
She said the family was pleased with the food gesture from one of the country’s biggest clubs.
Paparampa thanked the Rollers family and candidly spoke of how he developed his love for football over the years.
He told Rollers fans that he was a clinical left footer whose crosses beat any goalkeeper.
Rollers Metsimotlhabe branch publicity secretary, Loago Kebonyemotse said Paparampa’s love for football and Rollers was unmatched.
He thanked Rollers management for the goodwill and said the gift would go a long way. Ends
