Blockbuster football weekend awaits
27 Mar 2025
After a two weeks break owing to international assignments during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, attention now turns back to the domestic calendar as the top tier FNB Premiership returns to action with blockbuster fixtures lined up for the weekend.
The premiership returns with Jwaneng Galaxy and Orapa United undoubtedly headlining the massive fixtures with a date at the Galaxy Stadium on Saturday. With a widening gap of 12 points between the two, it would be a mammoth task for the visiting side to collect maximum points against high riding home side who are yet to taste defeat in their own back yard in the last 24 months.
Buoyed by a decent victory in their last Orange FA cup last 32 fixture against traditional rivals Township Rollers FC, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote’s charges may fancy their chances against Galaxy who were not convincing in their last away match to rock bottom Security Systems FC holding them to a dull goalless draw.
Another blockbuster fixture is billed for the Sam Sono Stadium on Saturday with a mid-table showdown between resurgent Lobatse-based Extension Gunners and Majombolo, as NICO United is fondly known in Selibe Phikwe.
Gunners had collected all the maximum nine points in their last three encounters until they were ruthlessly stopped by runaway log leaders Mapalastina before the international break.
The resurgent Lobatse giants will look to continue where they left off. Second placed Matjimenyenga Boys, as TAFIC FC are better known, continue with their testing period as the league gets into the home straight with only nine matches to go until the end.
They come face to face with the rejuvenated Mochudi Centre Chiefs in an explosive league match that has all the ingredients of a thriller.
A win for Magosi will place them in second spot if Galaxy falters in Jwaneng.
After falling to Centre Chiefs in a rescheduled fixture midweek before the break, Gaborone United will look to dust themselves up and join the race for the staggering P1.4 million prize money.
They take on Security Systems who are on the brink of the dreaded relegation zone.
On Sunday, Rollers take on Sua Flamingoes in Tlokweng while on the same day, Matebele will entertain Morupule Wanderers in another exciting mid table clash at the GU stadium in Gaborone.
Relegation battle between Chadibe FC and BDF XI is penciled for the Francistown City Council Stadium while Union Flamingo Santos and VTM FC open all the league fixtures with a clash at the GU stadium this afternoon. ENDS
