Botswana’s own, Ontefetse Osego, is embarking on a fundraising journey to display his musical talent on the esteemed global stage, X Factor Global. 

To aid this pursuit, a musical fundraiser will take place on Saturday at the Full Gospel Hall in Mafikana Ward, starting at 1800 hours. 

The X Factor Global, renowned for its substantial winning prize of approximately P18 million, gathers exceptional acts from across the globe to perform before a panel of esteemed music industry judges during initial auditions. 

In an interview with BOPA, Osego shared that the total cost for his trip is estimated at P250 000, with his departure scheduled for May. 

He stated that the specific date would be communicated through the X Factor media platforms. 

Thus far, the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs has pledged P50 000, leaving Osego’s team with the responsibility to raise the remaining P200 000, with a minimum target of P50 000 to be raised in Kanye alone. 

If successful in his endeavour, Mr Osego would make history as the first representative of Botswana in the X Factor Global singing competition category. 

He possesses a strong vocal talent, instilling hope among his supporters for a successful showing. 

Osego’s musical journey began with his participation in the My Star competition in 2013, where he finished in fourth place. 

He later claimed the title of senior vocal champion in the ‘Best of the Best’ competition in 2016. 

To hone his craft, he studied vocal training at the Cape Town City Varsity Institution. In 2019, the renowned Tshwane Gospel Choir in South Africa discovered him, leading him to produce gospel classics for SABC 2. 

Tshireletso Modikwa, the Manager of Creative and Cultural Sector Development at the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB), expressed support for Mr Osego, who has captivated audiences since his debut on My Star. 

She highlighted his accomplishments, noting his victory in the ‘Best of the Best’ competition featuring past winners. 

Modikwa emphasised that Osego’s pursuit of not only showcasing his talent but also promoting diversity, cultural exchange, and global unity was commendable. He stated that supporting artists like Osego was crucial for advancement of Botswana’s creative industry. ENDS
