The Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) will today extend its longstanding relationship with Metropolitan Life Botswana through a sponsorship launch.
Last year during the launch of the over P150 000 sponsorship toward an annual tournament, Metropolitan Life Botswana Chief Executive Officer, Boitumelo Mogopa said the company had been a stalwart supporter of BCF for over two decades.
Meanwhile, Smash Maniacs Table Tennis in collaboration with Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) and Phoenix Assurance Botswana will on Saturday, hosts its annual table tennis competition at Babusi Hall in Gaborone. A communication from Smash Maniacs said the tournament would feature categories in senior men and women singles and the junior boys and girls singles.
The tournament is viewed as one of the platforms for top and upcoming local table tennis players to perform at the highest level and improve their rankings.
Following a successful selection of the national teams earlier this month, the Botswana Badminton Association will also from March 29 to 30 hosts the UB Open Badminton Championship.
The championship will feature players in U-18, senior and masters (above the age of 40) categories.
Meanwhile, Bowls Botswana will send youth teams to participate in the 2025 South Africa U-18 and U-25 championships in Bloemfontein, South Africa from March 29 to April 1.
In the U-18 category (male), Gabriel Maphane, Jordan Davis and Gideon Lereka will represent the country and U-18 (female) will be Thabile Keorotse and Chantell Moemele.
The U-25 team is made up of Thabo Makopa, Kaone Maroku and Edwin Nyoka (junior) in the male category while the females will be Tshepo Maphane and Mighty Morwaagole.
A press release from Bowls Botswana says the participation will be historic as it will be the first time for a youth team to be sent to an international tournament. The release further says the U-18 team is made up of students who are products of the Re Ba Bona Ha grassroots development programme centred at Jwaneng Bowling Club.
“Our focus remains on fostering youth participation to ensure the legacy of sporting excellence,” says the media release. It also says the tournament is where the youth and future of Bowls Botswana are expected to battle it out and prove their mettle. ENDS
