The Botswana Softball Association (BSA) has assembled a 16-member national U-18 girls team to represent the country at an invitational tournament in Japan.

The team has been invited to take part in the continental games organised by the Takatashi Mayor and to be held in June.

Secretary General of BSA and U-19 women team manager, Same Molete has revealed on Saturday at the National Diamond during the team’s first training session that the games would include Singapore, Italy, Japan, Germany, Tanzania and Botswana.

Molete said the team was made up of players aged between 13 and 18 from different schools across the country being Clifton, John Mackenzie, Motaung Junior Secondary School in Kang, Mphuthe Junior Secondary School in Letlhakeng, Good Hope Senior Secondary School, Masunga Senior Secondary, which were centres of sports excellence and BSA clubs.

Molete said as part of the training session the team would during the school holidays in April engage in a two-week training camp in Jwaneng.

She said another lengthy camp would be held prior to the team’s departure in June.

Molete said even with the absence of school sport, which had been a platform for nurturing and developing young players, BSA was able to identify young players through its Re Ba Bona Ha programme. ends
