SOFA reviews women league
18 Mar 2025
The Southern Region Football Association (SOFA) chairperson has urged clubs to maintain professionalism and prepare adequately for upcoming fixtures.
Speaking during the Southern Women’s Football League committee meeting held on Saturday, SOFA chairperson Matthew Mmono said the league’s development hinged on their collective effort. He encouraged clubs to collaborate in fostering women’s football across the nation. He also stressed the significance of the meeting in the growth of women’s football.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives from the league’s 10 clubs, the regional referee chairperson, and members of the Southern Region Football Association executive committee, evaluated the first round of the 2024/25 season and discussed future plan. The first round of the league commenced January 18 and concluded on March 15.
The meeting agreed that matches that were not played due to various factors, including natural disasters and unforeseen circumstances, be scheduled within the two weeks. For matches that were not played because certain teams failed to honour their fixtures, it was decided that such teams must submit reports to SOFA for a disciplinary hearing. A regional disciplinary committee was established to review the cases and propose appropriate measures.
The meeting also provided financial updates regarding grants to be distributed to each team at the end of the first round. Jwaneng Diamond Mine has sponsored the league to approximately P100 000. ENDS
