GIMC Afrotech honours female DJs
11 Mar 2025
To recognise and honour women in the DJ arena, Gaborone International Music and Concert (GIMC) Afrotech 6.0 will host a mini pitso in commemoration of international women’s month on March 29 at Game City Marquee.
The month of March is set aside by United Nations to celebrate women’s achievements, on March 8.
Women have in some fields experienced biasness, and the creative space is no exception particularly the DJ platform which is predominantly men. This GIMC Afrotech edition, the ultra-feminine is first of its kind, women only Afrotech gig featuring Botswana’s great afrotech female talent in Kele, DJ Mis J, Bo-Kettle, Osaka Sun, DJ Rudo, Kutlo Scope, Nendiyo and DJ Missy.
“We are doing this because we believe female DJs and artists have come of age and we can hold an event on them alone,” said Fish Pabalinga, the organisor of GIMC. Pabalinga urged other women to come and support these creative talent on the day and celebrate them as well as their craft.
Each year, the UN comes with a theme to honour women’s contributions and advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.
And, the theme for 2025 is: Accelerate Action, which emphasises the need to speed up efforts to end systematic barriers and biases that prevent gender equality.
Tickets for GIMC Afrotech 6.0 ultra-feminine are on sale at P150 single ticket and P800 double.
The double ticket includes some goodies including two pairs of GIMC/BK Proctor neon socks. ENDS
