My Star Top 18 contestants had a rare and exciting opportunity to rub shoulders with various Members of Parliament (MPs) at a small meet and greet gathering which took place before parliament recently.

The gathering allowed the rising stars, proudly clad in their signature My Star T-shirts and caps, to engage with key political figures as a way of garnering their support in their new journey to stardom.

“We are doing this for the first time in the history of the show,” said the founder and director of the show, Keabetswe ‘Master Dee’ Sesinyi, adding that the intention was to remind the government and My Star lovers that the show  was still vibrant and had grown.

The legislators praised contestants for their dedication and encouraged them to pursue their dreams, assuring them that they would soon become a reality.

Kgatleng West MP, Dr Unity Dow also lauded the songbirds along with a piece of advice, “these are clearly some talented young singers, however, even if some do not succeed on this journey, just being on this platform is all a fundamental opportunity they need to gain confidence.”

Dr Dow shared a heartfelt story about a young poet, performer and also a law student whom she hired through the creative arts.

“I was mesmerised by her poise and talent and decided that she had to join my firm,” remarked Dr Dow.

Speaking to BOPA, a return contestant to the show, Bonitah Kekopanye, expressed his excitement stating, “My Star is an opportunity for me to get exposure as an artist because it’s very difficult to take off on your own. Nonetheless, you are looking at a different Bonitah now. I’m not going back home without that 100 000 cash prize this time.”

The judging panel of the show would be Sesinyi, My Star 2009 winner, Kitso Selato as well as recording artist and content creator, Katlego Ramphaleng who goes by her stage name of Black Rose. My Star has been confirmed to air on Botswana Television every Sunday at 9 pm. ENDS
