The grand finale of the 17th Miss Millennium beauty pageant will be held at the Millennium Jazz restaurant in Mogoditshane on March 8.

Addressing a press conference Thursday, Zenzele Hirschfeld, the coordinator of the pageant, explained that the vision and mission of this year’s competition was to foster personal growth and confidence in its contestants, financially and physically.

“The impact we are concentrated on for this year’s contestants is to add to their knowledge on financial literacy and empowerment. As we engaged with our contestants over the years, we have recognised a huge gap in women’s lack of financial literacy, hence the need to educate them,” said Hirschfeld.

BotswanaPost spokesperson, Dr Gaone Marunyane revealed that the BotswanaPost would award the top 10 finalists with devices to help them kick-start their small businesses as BotswanaPost agents or vendors.

She said the organisation would be offering the women an opportunity to make a steady stream of income as DigiPost Post service providers.

Through the virtual post office service, they can sell electricity or airtime, help get customers to renew vehicle licenses and will be paid commission for every transaction.

For her part, the first pageant winner and Miss Millennium 2008, Felecity Bogacu, reminded all that the aim of the competition was to give back to the community.

She emphasised that it was the responsibility of each year’s reigning queen to start a project aimed at contributing positively within local communities.

The current first princess, Dorcas Chuma shared her testimony about the pageant’s positive impact in her life.

She also talked about the great support she recieved from the Miss Millennium community after the passing of her daughter.

 “I came to Miss Millennium still heartbroken. I had lost my daughter in 2019 to cancer. Meeting other women in the competition and sharing our personal stories gave me comfort and peace,” said Chuma. ENDS
