In a quest to unearth hidden talent, Black Tone Productions hosted the Afro Vibe live recording event at the picturesque Gamoleele Dam on Saturday aimed at showcasing the beauty of the place while recording a live DJ mix featuring the previously undiscovered talent from Molepolole.
The event not only highlighted the rich culture and vibrant music scene of Molepolole, but also aimed to promote the place’s natural attractions as potential tourist destination. Event organiser, Joseph Ntshonyane explained that the purpose of the event was to showcase the lesser-popular, but equally rich genre of Afro Vibe house music.
“We wanted to offer a platform for local DJs who are often overshadowed by the mainstream success of Amapiano,” explained Ntshonyane.
Furthermore, he said the event served as a symbol of positivity for Molepolole, an area that had faced negative perceptions in the past due to reports of heinous crimes and violence.
“Through this event, we wanted to show that there’s more to Molepolole than what you might see in the headlines,” Ntshonyane added.
He said there were talented musicians from the village, stunning scenery, and a vibrant cultural heritage that deserves to be celebrated.
“Our hope is that events like this will encourage locals and tourists alike to visit Molepolole and Kweneng region and experience the beauty for themselves,” he said.
The live video recording of the event, he said, would serve as a powerful tool for promoting the talented DJs and their unique genre of music.
“By sharing the video on social media, we hope to reach a wider audience and introduce the world to the captivating sounds of Afro Vibe house music and the scenic beauty of Molepolole,” he said.
Adding to the impressive line-up, the event featured popular artistes in the likes of DJ Books, Afro Committee, Rhythm Ancestrals, and the crowd-pleasing Afro Vibe, who closed the show on a high note.
Sharing his thoughts on the outcome of the event, DJ Shift said it was a monumental moment.
Dr Ketshepile Taylor, a Maun native and participant, was impressed with the event’s ability to draw people from the city to appreciate nature in abundance. ENDS
