Kgari set to drop album

06 Feb 2025

Kanye’s very own Afro-Kwaito sensation, Tshepo Kgari, aka, Tsambo says his much-anticipated album is set for release on February 28.

The 12-track album promises a fusion of story-telling and infectious rhythms, featuring collaborations with BOMU Award winners Tinerman Kwaito and Thato Tladi, alongside talented producers, DJ Ike, William Wrist and rapper Dwayne Phoenix.

“My album delivers powerful messages about life, love, hope, emotions and celebrations,” he said.

Reflecting on his musical journey, Kgari told BOPA that he drew inspiration from South African Kwaito legend Zola 7, whose music speaks deeply about real-life struggles.

“Zola 7’s storytelling motivated me to create my own unique Afro-Kwaito sound. I was also inspired by Botswana’s underground Kwaito artist, Tizo,” he shared.

Kgari’s music career began in 2015 as a backing vocalist, but later ventured into his own music in 2020, releasing his first single in 2021. However, he said the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down his progress.

He urged the Ministry Sports and Arts  to allocate more funding to support creative and performing artistes, as recording and promoting music remained an expensive process. Discussing his marketing approach, Kgari  said he actively submitted his projects to radio stations and social media.

“I already have 2 000 followers on Facebook and 1 000 views per video on TikTok,” he stated.

Despite his growing presence, he acknowledged the challenges of securing corporate endorsements.

“I’ve never had a corporate endorsement, but I have performed  at one event last year. Although it did not pay much, it was a good platform. I’m also expecting another gig with Kanye DHMT,” he added.

Kgari has graced major stages, performing at GaMaila Festive Meltdown, KFX, Maitisong, and Botswana Television shows Flava Dome and Mokaragana. Offering words of wisdom to upcoming musicians, he emphasised the importance of passion and perseverance.

“Love what you do, be patient, and stay committed before thinking about money. Set goals and work towards them,” he advised.

He also stressed the need for financial investment.

“Music, like any other business, requires sacrifice. You have to spend money to produce high-quality tracks and music videos. It takes time, resources, and the right connections,” he concluded.

With a strong vision and unwavering determination, Kgari  is set to make a lasting mark on the Afro-Kwaito scene. Fans can expect a vibrant and impactful album capturing the essence of real-life experiences through music. ENDS
