24 Nov 2024

Revellers were in for a tremendous treat at Orapa sports hall on November 22 as BDF Bands in Concert lit Botswana's smallest town, getting it into a festive euphoria.

Normally Orapa is left empty on weekends as people prefer to party in the nearby Letlhakane, but this time around it was the opposite.

All roads led to Orapa with multitudes swarming into the diamond town, where spectators got to taste the music from the world's most celebrated artistes as well as local ones in the likes of Sereetsi and the Natives, Celine Dion, Beyoncé as well as Motlha among and others.

The BDF band raised the curtain with a military band repertoire showcasing a musical piece Poet and Peasant from Austria Vienna by Franz Van Suppe.

The outstanding performance displayed by the band filled the air at Orapa sports hall with sheer excitement and hype.

The first musical presentation was followed by Sweet Caroline composed by Nell Diamond and arranged by Tim Waters.

Sweet Caroline performance shook and stirred the mood of the night crawllers, sending a strong message that the long awaited festival had indeed commenced.

The third song was Kgomo by Jonas Gwangwa, which got all dancing to a piece mostly associated with wedding ceremonies.

Another outstanding presentation that electrocuted the airwaves was titled Prayer by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.

The song, which calls for a prayer for guidance, hope and safety, was presented in an appealing and stylish way complemented by the beat from instruments, provoking emotional responses from the crowd.

The festival heated up throughout the night during the presentation of the dance bands ensembles playing such songs as; In your eyes by Peter Gabriel, Nthomelele Molaetsa by Kabelo, My Hero by Matshikos as well as Let me Live my Life by Cheek to Cheek.

The festival was closed with a medley of songs that got revellers bursting with excitement. Such were; I Can't Stop Loving You by Phil Collins, Sawa Sawa by Flavour, Maloba by Han-C, and Bekezela by Vusi Nova.

The BDF band donated a cheque worth P25 000 to Kedia Tannery in Kedia, rubber stamping the aim of the festival, which is to contribute significantly to Botswana's developments by promoting and living the spirit of self-reliance. Ends
