Botswana Literature Awards has seen a significant growth as 90 submissions have been received for this year’s awards.
Forty submissions were received during last year’s awards.
Botswana Literature Awards founder and also the Managing Director of the Poeticblood Publishers, Dr Lame Pusetso said in an interview that this year, they would award 26 authors, while last year, 14 authors were recognised. This, she said showed growth.
Some of the categories include Best children’s book, Best Setswana poetry book, Best English poetry book, best cook book, best English novel as well as best Setswana novel among others. She said the awards, which started last year aimed to appreciate authors.
“I was inspired by seeing the talent that we have in our country, the creativity and the hard work they put in for telling stories and portraying history of our country,” she said.
She said the guest speaker for this year’s awards, which would be held at Pretoa Hotel on December 14, would be Mr Edwin Moroka, who is well known as Serurubele.
Also, they expect the Minister of Sports and Arts to give the keynote address.
The awards will be celebrated under the theme, Celebrating our Unique Stories. ENDS
