- First-time author, Gloria Ramasu has published Beauty for Ashes, a book aimed at helping people navigate life’s challenges, particularly those struggling with mental wellness.
“People are going through a lot, and some find it difficult to cope mentally,” explained Ramasu in an interview about the insights of her table top book, which focuses much into issues such as grief, depression, and toxic environments, offering readers a path to healing through the author’s personal experiences and insights.
Ramasu shared that her love for writing inspired her to address such struggles.
She further mentioned that she wanted to use her writing skill to bring about healing and help people face life’s challenges.
“It brought up a lot of emotions, but I knew it would be worth it if the book could help someone heal,” she reflected.
The book is divided into two parts.
The first part tackles heavier themes that push readers into confronting their emotions. However, Ramasu expressed her fondness for the second part, where the tone shifts to a lighter and more uplifting mode.
Feedback from readers, she said, had been positive, with many praising the therapeutic nature of her writing.
“I’ve received so much unexpected positive feedback. People feel touched in ways they didn’t anticipate, and I think many more can benefit from books like this,” she noted.
Ramasu hopes her book would contribute to the growing conversation around mental health, especially in an era where domestic violence, depression, and workplace toxicity are on the rise.
“We are seeing a lot of people who aren’t emotionally well. I hope this book helps heal not just individuals, but families and communities as well,” she stated.
On authorship, Ramasu said it was deeply personal and emotional, as through the book, she relived some of her painful experiences. The book covers topics addressing themes such as shattered dreams, grief, finding joy in little things, and embracing self-worth.
For aspiring authors, Ramasu advised against self-doubt and procrastination.
“If someone can do it, so can you. Get out of your comfort zone and start writing,” she urged.
About the journey to writing the book, she said it was a challenging one.
As a mother with a full-time job, Ramasu said she had to juggle her responsibilities while finding time to write. She admitted to struggling with self-doubt, but the support from friends and family gave her the courage to continue.
“I would use my lunch breaks and stay behind after work to write. Weekends were also dedicated to the book,” she said.
Her target audience, she said, included those feeling overwhelmed by life’s difficulties and seeking emotional relief. Looking ahead, she is already working on similar projects and exploring collaborations with institutions that deal with mental wellness awareness. ENDS
