Preparations for the 2024 annual Glitz Awards of BW Celebs are taking shape with event scheduled to take place in Gaborone on November 2.

Glitz Awards Director, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang shared with the media in Gaborone on Tuesday that this year’s event would include a 13 episode documentary featuring  some nominees who would be part of a cooking show in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“In line with this year’s vision, 13 nominees will spend two weeks in Cape Town, while others are billed to participate in the cooking show, which will feature Botswana producers and presenters,” he said adding that in future, the documentary series aims to expand to 40 episodes to highlight more talent.

 Tlhomelang emphasised that the Glitz Awards were committed to recognising and showcasing Botswana’s celebrities. This year’s overall winner, he said, would walk away with a grand prize of P25 000 adding that other prizes lined up included a trip to Sandton, Johannesburg.

 He also called on businesses to support Batswana icons. He highlighted the critical role celebrities played in advancing brands and driving societal impact. One of this year’s sponsors, a fashion designer at Seloba Creations, Thapelo Mokgethi, testified that she had witnessed personal growth through the awards.

  The fashion designer shared how the exposure during her time as a nominee,  opened avenues of opportunities for her, including designing dresses for Miss World Africa, Lesego Chombo.

“Through these awards, I’ve had the opportunity to showcase my work. This year, I’m sponsoring five dresses for the event,” she said. Clicks Botswana Area Manager, Lebopo Bulayani, also expressed support for the event, saying, that the concept aligned with their vision at Clicks to help grow creatives and make an impact in Botswana’s communities.

She added that Clicks Botswana was considering selecting one of the nominees as their local brand ambassador.

This year’s awards have 35 categories, including Best Styled Social Media Influencer and Best Styled Comedian, among others. The Glitz Awards serve as a platform to uplift and empower creatives, foster pride and growth within the community. ENDS
