Miss Kgomokasitwa Sunday

25 Sep 2024

Fourteen girls and young women aged between 15 and 23 will battle it out for the crown for the Miss Kgomokasitwa pageant billed for Sunday.

According to the organiser, Refilwe Kgomotso, the pageant is in its second year running, and as a sign of growth, it has drawn in more contestants than it had done in its first year.

Kgomotso said in an interview on Tuesday that last year when the beauty contest was held in Lotlhakane East, it had registered only 10 participants.

She said the growth, though modest, was encouraging and gave them hope that as the pageant cycles through villages in GaNgwaketse, it would generate more interest from targeted communities.

She said the objective behind the pageant was to identify and nurture talent in small and often marginalised communities.

“We want to empower these girls by exposing their talent. We want to assure them that their dreams are valid and will remain so regardless of their (the contestants’) place of origin,” she said.

Kgomotso said the pageant, which would take place in Kgomokasitwa would  start off with organisers joining in in the litter picking campaign organised by Minister of Entrepreneurship Karabo Gare. ENDS
