02 Sep 2024

In order to burn some calories and attain ‘summer body’, fitness fanatics have found their way into the line-up of Gaborone International Music and Culture (GIMC) weeklong festivities.

Kick-starting the calendar of event on Friday, enthusiasts braved the chilly evening weather to take part in the 10km fun run, which was followed by an intensive three-hour aerobics session, where they also had an opportunity to socialise and network while at the same time enjoy a range of health benefits that come with the workouts.

“Tonight’s event has brought people together and we had an opportunity to network, and share ideas on how we could improve our health,” said one of the participants, Keolebogile Matong, adding that regular exercise had the potential to bring about good mental health and emotional wellbeing.  Any form of exercise, she said, had a potential to reduce the risk of many health conditions ranging from heart diseases to dementia and non-communicable diseases that bedevil today’s society.

She also encouraged community members to join fitness clubs in order to benefit from the motivation that came with working out in groups.

She particularly appealed to men and youth, whom she said tend to drag their feet when it came to participating in fitness activities. Apart from being an entertainment platform, GIMC has over the years become significant in business networking and cultural exchange.

Other events that GIMC prides itself with are jazz festival, comedy night, champagne picnic as well as clap and tap music festival. Ends
