Okavango District Council hosts mini show

29 Jul 2024

Okavango District Council (ODC) held a mini show in Gumare on Friday showcasing artefacts made by SMME entrepreneurs, poverty eradication and other economic empowerment programme beneficiaries in the area.

In interview, Principal Home Economics Officer II Favourite Phumusa said the mini show was a chance to market beneficiaries’ products which included basketry, wood work and dress making.

She said the exhibition was organised by the council Social and Community Development (S&CD) department on behalf of beneficiaries across the district of Okavango which stretched from Habu to Gudigwa.

“We promote cultural preservation by showcasing cultural artefacts that are still used and market the products on behalf of our beneficiaries who would then get the sales,” she said.

Ms Phumusa said the two-day mini show would see judging of the artefacts to select the best three which would win prizes.

The mini shows, she said were the first level of competitions held across the country on different dates and the winners would proceed to the cluster fairs which were a competition between districts hence the ODC winners would compete with winners from North West, Chobe and Ghanzi districts.

She said the cluster fair winners would then proceed to the annual consumer fair.

Ms Phumusa urged people who wished to participate in the mini-show to register at S&CD offices in their areas around the month of April every year. Ends
