Ghanzi Invasion partners with Afrofest

In their quest to empower local musicians and  foster collaborations,  Ghanzi Invasion has partnered with the Canadian based African music promoters called Afrofest.

The non-profit making organisation is renowned for its biggest annual flagship music festival dubbed ‘Afrofest’, that takes place every year in July in Montreal, Canada.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA, Ghanzi Invasion organiser, Desmond Lunga, said their movement was formed in 2022 committed to unearth and nurture abundant talent found in the Ghanzi District.

He said the movement had grown in leaps and bounds and that they saw it fit to celebrate their third edition in style by roping in most famous artist of all time from Canada, South Africa, and Botswana under one roof.

Lunga said the aim was to promote cultural exchange through music and the platform would also allow artists to acquire necessary skills to improve their performances.

He said through the music exchange programme with Afrofest, Ghanzi based artists would be honored to grace and feature in the 2025 Afrofest line up, saying it would give them exposure and boost their morale.

Furthermore, he said mentorship provided included business  skills and encouraging them to register with Companies and Intellectual Property Authority for intellectual property rights.

Lunga appreciated how the Ghanzi Invasion had grown adding that preparations were on for this year’s festive.

He anticipated an increase in revelers saying the event would also be boosted by the Ghanzi Show which would be celebrating 50 years.

Ghanzi Invasion has selected a line up featuring Charma girl, Young Stunna and Dj LaTimmy.

On other issues, he mentioned that, they were planning on establishing an arts performing centre in Ghanzi that would turn the township into a melting pot of cultures. ENDS
