11 Jul 2024

The annual Makgadikgadi Epic will once again bring the usual vibe of local tourism adventure to its patrons.

Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) Public Relations Officer, Samuel Lephalo explained that the annual event was scheduled for this weekend starting Friday at Lapa Area in Botash Mine Conservation Park.

He said this year’s activities included the sky diving and the tandem, which have proved to be popular and everybody’s favourite.

He said the hot balloon had also been included and one would have to part with P1 000 to enjoy the experience.

Kids have also been catered for with the kids’ corner.

Furthermore, he shared that for the first time, they have someone offering baby-sitting arrangement, which would be charged at an hourly rate.

This, he said was meant to give parents free time to enjoy without worrying about the whereabouts of their children.

Lephalo said the epic was in its eighth year, and noted that they were expecting masses to come.

He said usually they received good numbers of people from across the country who were eager to enjoy the adventure in the Makgadikgadi Pans.

He said the idea behind the first edition of the epic, which was held at Nata Bird Sanctuary was to encourage local tourism among Batswana.

He further noted that they have strategically arranged their calendar of events to cater for tourism activities across the country, highlighting among others Khawa in Kgalagadi.

In addition, he pointed out that over the years, they did not experience any accidents that occurred during the epic.

He, however, said they would remain on high alert for anything that might arise.

Entrance fee is P100 for adults and free entry for children under 12.

Proceeds will be given back to communities of Nata and surroundings as well Sowa settlements. Ends
