Multitudes from Tutume and the surrounding villages thronged the village kgotla to welcome Miss Botswana 2024, Anicia Gaothusi.

Speaking at the welcoming event on Friday, Kgosi Tapson Madikwe of Tutume observed that Gaothusi was fond of bringing happiness home, remembering the day she brought a Miss Teen International crown, which they also came to celebrate the same way they did with the Miss Botswana crown.

He said he would not be surprised if Gaothusi came from the Miss World competition with another crown.

He thus called upon the people of Tutume to pray for their queen’s success at the Miss World competitions.

Kgosi Madikwe further said not only was she shining for the country, but she was also doing it for Tutume, which he said would be known all over the world through her.

Appreciating her well-wishers, Gaothusi praised the community of Thini ward in Tutume, where she was raised, noting that their support had been remarkable from the time she started participating in local beauty pageants.

She said her journey had not been that difficult because of the support system she had from both her parents, family and the nation at large.

“I was raised by my family, but I also have a bigger family being the people of Tutume and indeed Batswana,” she said

From Botswana Council of Women, Dorcus Gosibotsile highlighted that Miss Botswana had been doing exceptionally well on international stages, which put the company in a better position to contest to host Miss World pageant in 2027.

She added that this should be an inspiration to young girls to take part in the beauty pageant for it was not only about beauty, but it also built their confidence.

She thus appealed to Batswana to continue to give Botswana Council of Women and all the reigning queens support as such would add to their advantage on international stages. ENDs
