Activations hype Sir Seretse Khama Marathon

Residents of Mahalapye and environs have been encouraged to register for the Sir Seretse Khama Commemoration Marathon to be held in Serowe from June 29-30.

GaMmangwato regent Kgosi Serogola Seretse said during marathon activation in Mahalapye recently that the marathon was meant to celebrate the legacy of the first president of the country.

He said it was also geared toward celebrating his contribution to the nation’s independence, democratic governance, as well as his role in promoting peace, tranquility, unity and prosperity.

He further said it would serve as an opportunity for cultural exchanges as they would be come cultural activities during the two-day event.   

He further thanked business people, communities at large countrywide and churches for playing an active role in promoting the marathon, adding that their efforts had encouraged Batswana to be united. Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe of Mahalapye and also Ntlo Ya Dikgosi deputy chairperson also shared the same sentiments with Seretse that the marathon captured the true essence of Sir Seretse Khama of nation building.

He said it was pivotal to celebrate Sir Seretse Khama since he played a pivotal role in transforming Botswana into what it was today.

Marathon coordinator, Botshelo Nthaga said it was vital for Batswana to attend the event in large numbers to celebrate the legacy of the founding president.

He said the first day of the festivities would start with a Presidential lecture by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi while marathon would be held on the second day.

Meanwhile, the marathon will three categories being; 5km, 10km and 21km in which aspirants are expected to register with P350 for 21km, P250 for 10km and P200 for 5km. Registration deadline in June 16. ENDs
