Tech savvy young African content makers earn income

 In a world where technology is abundant, techno savvy young Africans can leverage on their skills and talent to earn an income.

Panelists, Mr Tervin Musara, Bontle Modiselle and Ms Boniswa Sidwaba stated in a conversation with CNBC Africa’s producer,  Keamogetswe Mosepele at the ongoing Forbes Under 30 Summit in Tlokweng on Monday May 6.

“Young Africans can invest in content creation and make cash out of it,” said  Modiselle, a South African actress and television presenter and TikTok content producer when asked how new entrepreneurs could cash in on the invention.

Modiselle said new media had made content creation and sharing easier and implored young people to leverage on technology and their creative skills.

“When you are good at what you do, you can succeed,” said  Modiselle and added that the audience was constantly looking out for creative content.

Nonetheless, she cautioned that success on social media platforms came with a great deal of hard work and creativity while  Musara, a South African based content producer with over eight million followers on TikTok alone, said content creating for a living was possible for young Africans as long as they were unique and creative.

Although the phenomenon was still new, Mr Musara reckoned young African content creators had what it took to be the best.

He gave himself as an example for having been the most viewed content creator on TikTok, in the world for two months in 2023, a testimony that young Africans had potential.

Mr Musara made a plea to corporate entities to give young Africans a chance to promote their products and services.

Content operations manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok,  Sidwaba said TikTok inspired creativity and joy.

TikTok is user friendly and allows users to edit their creation,  Sidwaba said and noted that authenticity was key to content creation . She however, said there was need for more collaborations and stakeholder engagement, to improve the benefits of content creations for your people.
