Organisers of the Grand Palm Comedy Session Live have promised bigger and better comedy acts in the next episodes of the event.
The comedy session was the latest feature for the hotel adding to lifestyle activities such as the gin experience which is hosted around November annually.
The comedy segment kicked off in March and would be hosted monthly with a different theme to provoke conversations and give audience a grand performance filled with humour.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Saturday sold out live session hosted at the hotel’s Okavango conference room, Brando Keabilwe said they would continue to bring reputable international acts as part of their package.
He said they would strive to hog more comedians and invite local stand-up comedians to rub shoulders with established acts.
During a chilled out session before an exciting audience, Gabane born slap stick comedian Oefile ‘Mawee’ Mokgware set the stage ablaze with his talent.
He enthralled a full house of comedy lovers with his engrossing one-man performance that proved why he is one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians locally.
Mawee left a lasting impression sharing jokes about life in general and the hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also poked fun at local languages especially Sekgalagadi and Sekalaka, the complexity of the two languages when someone had to relay a very simple message.
Sekgatla language was also not spared especially that the comedian felt speakers used profane language.
Zimbabwean born professional stand-up comedian also set the stage on fire. Manase is one of a kind comedy heavyweight who expresses his love for comedy through his on-point, intellectual quick wit.
He joked about his Zimbabwean identity and the stereotype associated with being Zimbabwean. Manase brought the roof down when he introduced his girlfriend, a young lady living with albinism.
He said his parents expected him to bring home a white girl friend but she was all she could bring home.
Manase also made a comparison between courtship in the yesteryears and love relations nowadays.
The Zimbabwean comedian received a standing ovation from the crowd as he walked off the stage.
Another impressive Zimbabwean born but raised in Botswana, comedian Brian Sibanda also held the crowd in stitches behind the microphone.
He shared early childhood memories before coming to Botswana to learn the difficult Setswana culture.
The last act and headliner of the evening was American Tye Lamar. Besides the heavy tinge of American accent the professional stand-up comedian impressed articulating Setswana words beautifully to the amusement of the audience. Ends
