Chombo return to rapturous welcome

Many Batswana thronged the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) on Sunday to welcome Miss World-Africa, Lesego Chombo back home following the recently concluded 71st Miss World competition held in India.
Chombo received accolades for portraying Botswana admirably at the competition.
Minister of Home Affairs, Annah Mokgethi lauded Chombo for her remarkable achievements and the honour she brought to Botswana.Mokgethi said Chombo’s journey to the Miss World stage was not an easy one, but she persevered and emerged as a shining example of resilience and determination.
“We commend Chombo for her hardwork and dedication, which led to this remarkable accomplishment,” she said.
She said Chombo made history at the competition as the first representative from Botswana to be placed in all fast-track events and ultimately becoming Miss World Africa.
Regarding Botswana’s achievement at Miss World, she noted that Botswana last held the Miss World-Africa title 14-years-ago by former Miss Botswana, Emma Wareus.
“Therefore, we congratulate her on this tremendous achievement. Lesego Chombo’s success at the Miss World Pageant extends far beyond her own personal achievement. Her triumphs have truly resonated with our nation, serving as a source of inspiration for young girls and women to dare to dream big and strive for excellence,” she said.
“As Chombo returns home, we eagerly anticipate the exciting opportunities that await this exceptional young woman.
We have every confidence that her experiences and successes in the Miss World will be the solid foundation upon, which she will continue to thrive,” said the minister.
With her unwavering passion and determination, she said they were certain that she would continue to make Botswana proud as she ventured into new endeavours.
The reigning Miss World Africa, Chombo, expressed her gratitude to Batswana for their unwavering support and the love they showed her throughout the journey.
She credited her remarkable performance to their courageous spirit and dedication. Following the competition, Chombo enjoyed a week-long retreat in Mauritius as a reward for clinching the Miss World Africa title. Ends
