Popular comedian Onkgopotse Mugende, better known as Mdala ka Tje or just Ditori tse di Serious, is famed for using his sharp wit and rib-cracking quips to brighten the days of many, but this time he has chosen to take on a serious undertaking.

He is on a mission to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He said in an interview that out of appreciation of the value for education and its potential to change lives, he has decided to donate school uniform to underprivileged pupils as part of his mission to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his comedy career. 

Mdala ka Tje pointed out that he was moved to carry out the initiative by the plight of many families who have financial challenges and therefore cannot fully clothe their children in appropriate uniform. He noted that not being well-dressed in the right uniform could impair a child’s capacity to learn. 

“It is up to us all to find ways to help those less fortunate. I therefore took it upon myself to embark on the a Donate School Uniform Initiative to make a difference. 

Every year, countless underprivileged children struggle to attend school due to lack of proper uniform,” he said. 

With assistance from a few supporters of his initiative, Mdala ka Tje has donated uniform to a number of pupils in Gaborone and its environs, as well as in the northern part of Botswana. 

His gesture went viral on social media, as people praised his initiative while others followed with pledges of more uniform to augment his effort. ENDS
