Musicians Botshelo Mosweu aka Girly wa Dibody and Phenyo Nkala aka Jackalass Onetym have joined forces to record an album titled League Ya Di Bosso, which will be released in March.
In an interview with their manager, Leago Mogano, he said the album was created with passion from both artistes.
“It’s organic and features talented individuals who have set a high standard in the Motswako scene,” he said.
Mogano added that both artistes were passionate about music and had embraced the culture of the music industry.
He said they were able to express their talent through fashion, music and their humanity.
He noted that the music was raw and resonated with Batswana as well as those abroad who could relate to the message shared by both artistes in the album.
Girly noted the chemistry between herself and Jackalass, likening it to that of Maglera Doe Boy and Dee Koola in South Africa, who were also a great source of inspiration for them.
She emphasised their belief in local talent and their ability to captivate audiences with their music.
She also elaborated on their project, crediting its creation to Pro Lanez, a music producer from Mochudi.
She highlighted their shared vision that led to the development of the project, saying it was well received by music lovers and promoters.
Girly also emphasised the experience that their fans could expect from songs such as I Believe, Tike and Pula, which she considers to be the standout tracks from the project.
In addition, she noted the diverse fan base that Girly and Jackalass Onetyms had garnered, emphasising the relatable message in their project and drawing a parallel to the collaboration between 25K, Maglera Doe Boy and DJ Sliq.
She urged their fans to have hope and faith in whatever they did, saying it only took a day to completely change their lives.
She also emphasised the importance of believing in something and staying true to it.
She highlighted the positive impact of Mogano, who leads the management and media agency called Swervo Visuals and Swervo Media Group.
“We believe that Mogano will connect us with major artistes in South Africa and Nigeria, which are the markets we’re looking to penetrate,” she said, adding that they planned to collaborate with major brands and to build on the work they began last year and plan to execute this year.
On the strategy to popularise the album, she said they were exploring emotional engagements with audiences through airplay, performances at shows and licensing their music for use in advertisements.
Girly’s recent accomplishment includes becoming a Disc Jockey last year and winning the best female single and best newcomer award during the 2021 YAMA’s awards. She is currently the presenter of the Mokaragana show on Botswana Television.
Onetym has also released a single called Tshipi, which is doing well on social media and airplay platforms. ENDS
