Shumba Ratshega, who has been missing from the local music for close to seven years, will make a triumphant return on November 11 with a highly anticipated concert at Millennium Jazz Restaurant.

The much loved musician will celebrate his illustrious career with some of his iconic songs such as Makhirikhiri that was released in 2017.

Shumba stopped his traditional music performances in 2017 when he accepted the call to be a pastor at Umbrella of God’s Grace Church and had since been inaudible.

With a career spanning decades, he has solidified his place in the country’s music history as a legendary artist. His heartfelt lyrics, distinctive voice and raw talent have captivated audiences worldwide.

He will also launch his new song called Kamoso ke Motholo. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday at Sedibeng Lodge, Afro Heavens Creations manager, Chilly Segona revealed that Shumba would be performing alongside the likes of Dikakapa, Dr Vom and many others.

He said Shumba was well known for performing wearing his tshega, but that it would be different this time as he would be launching the new Shumba and the new attire that he would use on stage.  

Shumba has fearlessly followed his artistic instincts, refusing to conform to commercial expectations and the unwavering commitment has earned him the respect and admiration of fellow musicians and fans alike.

Formally known as Moses Malapela, the traditional muso said his songs were inspired by God and that he would continue in that line since he had accepted the call to be God’s servant.

He said his new song was basically giving hope to people who were going through tribulations and assuring them that through God, they would overcome their challenges.

Shumba is also well known in neighbouring countries having performed in Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia. Fans can expect an evening filled with nostalgia and powerful performances of his timeless classics on November 11. ENDS
