17 Oct 2023
Resurrect magazine launched its fifth edition in Gaborone on Saturday, featuring award-winning actress, Kgomotso Ratsie, on the cover. During the launch, which was full of glamour and style, the Chief Editor, Didimalang Kofa, said the magazine’s mission was to promote self-improvement and also to share the inspiring stories of young icons making a significant impact in Botswana.
Kofa also explained that the magazine covered a wide range of lifestyle topics, entertainment, and much more. Shedding more light on the magazine, she said the idea behind the publication was that the community gets to appreciate and learn from the achievements and endeavours of their fellow young Batswana.
This, in turn, she said, serves as a source of motivation for those who are still trying to find their path in life.
“The magazine speaks to each one of us, tapping into our inner selves, and when you read through its pages, you will discover the immense capabilities of Batswana,” she said. Kofa emphasized that this particular edition served as a platform for young Batswana not to only display the brilliance of their businesses but also to unleash their hidden talents.
She thanked the cover page woman of the October-December issue, Kgomotso Ratsie, for her remarkable versatility and creative spirit that has made her an award winning actress. “Kgomotso is an actress from Botswana who has gained recognition in South Africa through her roles in soap operas such as Scandal,” she said.
Kofa said Ratsie portrayed the character Aunt Jemina on Etv’s Scandal. Speaking about the Resurrect magazine, Ratsie praised Kofa for her outstanding work in telling the stories of Batswana and showcasing their talent through the magazine.
In the magazine, Ratsie reveals for the first time that she experienced sexual assault. She shared that in 2017, she was violated and went through a period of depression, which she describes as the darkest days of her life. The Business Development Manager of KGK Diamonds, Siddarth Gothi, praised the magazine.
He said the importance of such a platform was celebrating exciting success stories of women in Botswana and he further pointed out that this served as a declaration to the capabilities and accomplishments of Batswana in the world of business.
Giving a brief background introduction of KGK Diamonds, Gothi said it employs more than 400 Batswana and has trained more than 300 young people, empowering them with industry-ready diamond cutting and polishing skills. Other speakers included Basadi Molelekeng, a successful commercial woman farmer based in Pandamatenga who advised the magazine team to learn, unlearn and relearn.
She also emphasized the importance of both formal and non-formal education and advised that there was no escalator to success and everybody needed to take the stairs. She also said the magazine was doing a profound job of giving Batswana an opportunity to read their own stories.
The magazine also showcases Kgomotso Twagirayezu, the founder and director of the local cosmetics company, Shedol Fragrances and Cosmetics. Twagirayezu, who also spoke at the event, shared her personal success story.
She revealed that since beginning operations in 2018, her business has flourished with products now being sold in more than 25 stores nationwide. ENDS
