02 Oct 2023

Miss Independence Botswana, Bone Kookilwe has promised to spend her time as the reigning queen to give back to the community through her project called ‘Door Clinic’.

Kookilwe, a 23-year-old from Molepolole, was crowned queen at a beauty pageant held at Cresta Lodge on September 29 and the event coincided with Botswana’s 57th anniversary celebrations.

Through her Door Clinic initiative, she said in an interview that she aimed to educate people in remote areas of Botswana about the importance of a balanced diet, encourage cultivation of small vegetable gardens since many were already farmers and keeping of backyard poultry or livestock as additional sources of healthy food.

“This also includes the benefits of regular physical activity good hygiene and also teach them about the basic techniques of first aid,” she said.

Also, she said she intended to teach people in remote areas about simple exercises they could do at home or outside such as walking, jogging, stretching or resistance training with improvised weights.

“I will encourage them to engage in activities like gardening, hiking, or traditional sports that are accessible and suitable for their environment,” she added.

Kookilwe said she would also continue with her project called ‘Bless Me,’ which focused on educating young people about the dangers of relying on ‘blessers.’

She said the intention was to caution her peers about the potential risks and negative consequences of depending on older individuals to provide them with material possessions.

Meanwhile, Mosa Gontshwanetse and Lelentle Nkwete scooped first and second runner-ups respectively and the trio were crowned by the Miss Independence 2021, Oshebeng Makgaka.

The pageant included parades in swimwear and gowns as well as a talent show highlighting knowledge of Botswana while local artiste, Fifi Afrika provided entertainment on the night.

The pageant aimed to find an ambassador who can sell the country to investors and the world.

The founder, Gaonyafale Phuti, said she was happy with the outcome of the event.

Last year, Miss Independence Botswana was scooped by Dabilo Moses, currently the first ever Miss Supranational Botswana who went to Poland to represent Botswana. Ends
