Mrs Botswana reigning queen Portia Makgathong will join other contestants in competition for the coveted Mrs Universe title in Manila, Philippines October 1-8.

In an interview, the Founder and Director of Mrs Botswana Pageant Kgalalelo Lesetedi said Makgathong jets off to Philippines tomorrow to join the other 100 queens from across the world.

She said all the necessary preparations towards the competition had been taken care of including her costumes and jewellery.

“The final costume was designed by Montle Rantabana of MET Designs, although I cannot reveal much about it. I can only assure you that the concept of it all is to sell the country’s natural resources and some cultural aspects,” she said.

The Mrs Botswana 2023/2024 queen will be accompanied by her husband Tyron Makgathong, and the director of the pageant.

She said on arrival, Makgathong would attend a dinner session, courtesy of Botswana’s consulate in Manila to appreciate her efforts in the Mrs Universe competition.

Lesetedi further explained that the queen was expected to participate in three different activities that included presentation of her gender based violence project that covers aspects of child welfare, protection and safety, happy homes and marriages among others.

“In another activity, the queen is expected to wear a costume that best sell her country. She will also be expected to engage in a talent night showcasing her talent in any area,” she said.

The grand finale is on October 8 and the Queen is expected back home on the October 12. ENDS
