Glotto brand hits international stage

Botswana’s youthful fashion brand Glotto will rock the New York Fashion Week ramp on September 5 – 12.
The founder and creative director of Glotto, Mboko Basiami said this in an interview on Friday.
Basiami said the local brand was founded in 2015 and had since dominated social media platforms and found favour in the eyes of the youth due to its elegant blend of tourism and fashion.
“I used my book allowance whilst I was at the University of Botswana and started my brand from my small savings,” she said.
Basiami graduated from varsity in 2020 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business Marketing and Research.
“We have made progress throughout the years and have been honoured in the top five Most Admired Brand in Botswana and we are the only youth brand amongst the top 10 of that list,” she added.
She also highlighted that Glotto would be showcasing their products at the New York fashion week under the theme; Glotto Summer Spring – Weaponise Competence.
“The theme is inspired by our cultural and natural soldiers who wore leather tunics for uniforms and the spears they used, and so we will be revealing our organic leathers and crotchet wool clothing to the world,” she said.
Basiame called out for support from Batswana to sponsor the team to New York, as well as to follow the journey on social media platforms to appreciate the evolution of Botswana fashion.
She further encouraged other designers not to underestimate the power of social media, noting that it was through such a platform that the New York Fashion show team reached her.
Basiame also emphasised the importance of building one’s portfolio and leaving behind digital footprints. ENDS
