Songwriter and vocalist Hanceford Magapatona, known as Han-C in the music industry, has received a nomination for the 2023 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) in the coveted Best Male Southern Africa category.

In an interview, Han-C expressed delight at the nomination, which has placed him alongside strong contenders such as South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa.

“I was surprised the first time I got the news, but also excited. It was quite a shock, but everyone felt that I deserve it because of the work I have been putting in this year,” he said.

The artist behind the hit song Pepetetsa said the nomination went beyond competition as it could be described as recognition for his contributions to the music industry.

The recipient of the Yarona Music Awards’ Artist of the Year, attributed his nomination to unwavering dedication, adding, “I have been releasing music, making those major moves as consistency is always key,” he said.

He acknowledged that securing the award would be a phenomenal achievement. 

His notable recognition has already made ripples across the nation, underscoring that Botswana’s musical talent was gaining global acknowledgement.

He unveiled ambitious plans for the year among them starting his own show. 

“We recently launched Mantswitwsidi Productions and I started my own Production Company/Record Label,” Han-C said.

He said through his record label, he aimed to nurture budding artists and creative minds alike.

Han C’s upcoming event, the Mahalapye Spring Festival scheduled for September 30, promises to unite emerging and established artists for an unforgettable showcase of talent.

Amidst his local endeavours, Han-C teased fans with hints of international collaborations in the pipeline. 

While preserving some details, he alluded to joint efforts with artists such as Mr Brown and Talents from Lesotho. Ends
