New season Change of wardrobe

16 Aug 2023

Change of season usually means change of clothing as well as new fashion trends.

This year’s winter was characterised by dark coloured woolen dresses, ponchos, bomber jackets, cardigans, which are slowly being replaced by colourful clothing as spring/summer season approaches.

As warmer days approach, fashion designer,  Thabiso Dibeela envisions a collection that exudes a sunshine-infused picnic mood.

A visionary and passionate designer, Dibeela has a unique approach to what every wardrobe should look in the throes of winter.

Remaining true to her individuality, she offers an exclusive promise to her clientele.

Fresh pastels such as tangerine, soft blues, and delicate greens become the hues of choice.

These shades mirror the natural world, harmonising with the blooming flora and creating an aura of enchantment.

“Spring/Summer is the best time for fashion because it allows you variety in terms of colours and more functions are in the warmer months which translates to more business,” she said.

She said Botswana’s fashion scene evolved with each passing day, reflecting a global  trends of blending local creations with international influences.

The nation’s creative minds, driven by determination and vision, stand poised to conquer the future of fashion and Dibeela is optimistic, noting that governmental support and direction propelled this momentum forward.

Dibeela’s latest creations express the spirit of summer and spring.

Her designs, inspired by the lush landscapes and flourishing blooms, evoke a connection to nature.

Each garment is a testament to her dedication and a gesture to the natural world that surrounded her.

Tebo Bakwena-Kabisoso, co-founder of Fashion without Borders Africa, adds her insights to the seasonal fashion narrative.

Her senses capture the spectrum of trends, from utilitarian denim ensembles to the contrast of gothic and soft lace looks. Transitional dressing becomes an art form, with the secret lying in the delicate art of layering.

The shift from cosy sweaters to lightweight crochet knits necessitates versatile denim jackets, crafted with attention to detail that elevates any ensemble.

Bakwena-Kabisoso suggests oversized tailored blazers, playful jackets in relaxed fits, and blazers cleverly designed to double as mini dresses to capture attention this season.

Like clothing, hairstyles also change with the new season.

For most ladies ,summer means  moving from  dreadlocks, long single braids meant to protect the hair from harsh winter season.

Head of makeup/hairstylist at Voguish Beauty Parlour Kagiso Mokgware said spiring was a relaxed season as such braided hairstyles, bun or ponytail and Bantu knots are the way to go.

Mokgware added that mini fringe and shoulder length shaped bob, long curtain bangs and voluminous curls wigs are the ideal styles for the season.

Mochudi based hairstylist Innocent Bulala said in Summer men could do office cut, fade among others to look suave.

He said s-curl, cut and tint, and  a nice moustache could also enhance their image.

Bulala said all was not lost for those experiencing balding, adding that balding had different scales adding, “if it has not gone to the last straw you can style it, using a lady’s cut and die black.”

He said some women also experience balding but could   still rock beautiful styles.

“So its time to take off hoodies, beanies and look hot.”

For beauty consultant Mumsy Maseko this is time to look into latest trends and look great after a season of heavy wears.

She said bright coloured mini dresses and short cut hair are fashionable.

Maseko said this is the time to tint the hair with colours such as blonde, pink to bring out facial glows.  Ends
