Fine artists exude elegance

The National Arts Festival Fashion Show grand finale held Saturday in Palapye was a celebration of diversity and elegance for fashion designers, dressmakers, hair dressers and models, who made it to the last stage of the competition.
Spectators were treated to a dazzling display of style, creativity and innovation. The show started with male and female models strutting their stuff on the ramp and ended with a fashion show of elegant and eye catching designs.
Although participants showcased the amount of work invested in the designs and hair styling, they also proved that it was not only about stylish clothes and hair that turn heads, the show was also an expression of uniqueness, a reflection of one’s culture and a vehicle for self appreciation, confidence and empowerment.
The finals of the competitions twere staged at different locations across the country, for various categories with the aim to give Batswana an opportunity to appreciate Botswana’s diverse cultures.
Assistant Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Buti Billy said the festival was a platform for creatives to launch their businesses as well as market their products and services.
He said the competitions empowered artistes and ensured the arts were recognised as a source of livelihood for people and contribute meaningfully to the diversification of the economy.
In the hairdressing category Golebaone Seikano got position one, Nurse Modukanele got position two while position three went to Letlhogonolo Pilane.
Dressmaking category position one went to Otshepheng Modise, position two went to Refilwe Motimedi while position three went to Florence Radisoeng.
In fashion design, Oteng Lepere got position one, Nkhumo Ntsae position two and Shepherd Morake got position three. Bakang Marumo emerged the best male model, Thabo Rebagamang second and Sidney Kgosietsile came third.
Katlo Akanyang beat other female models to position one, Felicia Sebutla got position two while Leungo Modikwa got position three.
The National Arts Festival were introduced in 2008 as the President’s Day Competitions. The event has become a national event that brings the entire nation together in the spirit of celebration. Ends
