BTO pledges support for Wayeyi festival

05 Jul 2023

Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) has pledged its support for events that promote  culture while bringing diversity to the tourism product that Botswana offers.

As such, event organisers have been advised to package their products and be consistent in what they do.

The call was made by BTO Maun official, Thatayaone Mmapatsi at the annual Wayeyi Cultural Festival in Gumare recently.

He said consistency in the date of the event was not only for continuity purposes, but to enable the event to make it into the BTO calendar of events, which would market it to a wider community.

Mmapatsi said Wayeyi Cultural Festival had potential to grow and promote cultural heritage of Botswana.

He noted that the relationship with the Wayeyi Cultural Festival, which started this year with BTO as one of the sponsors, was the beginning of good things to come.

Mmapatsi said their product should show all cultural components such as song, dance, poetry, storytelling, attire and lifestyle artefacts used in the olden  era.

Cultural heritage tourism, he said, helped to revive culture as well as provide livelihood for the people.

He noted that some tourists were attracted by cultural aspects such as food to visit some places around the world.

Mmapatsi commended the Wayeyi for involving children and youth groups in the annual festival, which he said would ensure continuity. ENDS
