Frostbite rocks revellers at Kulture Zonke Live

03 Jul 2023

Thabang Kwapa, alias Frostbite rocked revellers  with his rhythm and blues (RnB) deejaying skills at the Zonke Live show at Gaborone International Convention Centre over the weekend.

Hosted by Kulture,  Zonke Live show featured South Africa’s Zonke as well as Dj Cleo. Known for his incomparable mixing skills of RnB tunes, Frostbite did not disappoint as he warmed the audience readying them for Zonke’s performance, dishing a handful of most loved tunes.

“Frostbite is always amazing with old school RnB music and I always look forward to his sets. He is the best in his game and although he was opening the show, I could go home now without watching other acts,” said one satisfied reveller Linnet Pono.

Jumping on stage to a not so full capacity hall was Zonke Dikana, dished out her love songs, opening with Viva the Legend.  The opening song warmed the audience and it was evident that they were looking forward to the diva’s two-hour performance.

Zonke’s performance had revellers on cloud nine as they sang along to songs such as Feelings, Intliziyo, leaving no doubt that they got their money’s worth.

Looking sensational in denim, black leather jacket with black boots, Zonke nailed the performance dazzling fans with her dance and engaging with them regularly. Her band members were also in form, clad in denim white.

“Coming to this show made me realise how much I have been missing out. Her songs speaks to the soul and mind,” noted Lilly Kgati, Zonke’s fan.

Other aficionados were excited that Zonke performed longer than they anticipated, saying it was worth their money.

“I needed this, and I am happy I did not waste my P800, she delivered and gave us her all,” said one Davis Kgope who said the songs reminded him of his varsity days in Cape Town.

However, some patrons were not impressed with Dj Cleo’s set. The Bhamba Side to Side, Mzimba Shaker, Facebook and most recent Gcina Impilo deejay  played a mix of songs ranging from amapiano, kwaito, motswako, RnB and house genres.

Whilst most fans were looking forward to going down memory lane with his original songs they felt his performance was disappointing.

“His set was confusing as one minute he will be playing Amapiano, the next RnB and/or house or motswako. We just wanted the old DJ Cleo to keep us on the dance floor as we know him,” said Mhigo Tjavera.

Earlier during an interview DJ Cleo said after a long break from the industry focusing on his studies he was coming back with one goal only, which is a Grammy award.

The BComm and Media studies graduate advised aspiring artistes and those in the game to stay true to themselves and concentrate on making music and not just a certain genre. ENDS
