About 230 nominees have been unveiled for the upcoming second Annual Glitz awards of BW Celebs billed for Gaborone, on October 28.

Featured under 41 categories such as Sport, the nominees include Letsile Tebogo and Ross Brunch. 

Nominees in category of best styled runway model include Miss Botswana 2023 Lesego Chombo and Miss Supranational 2023 Dabilo Moses while the best styled international actors category has the likes of Client Phuthego and Seneo Mabengano.

Presenting the nominees to the public in Gaborone on Tuesday, event Director Nkgopolang Tlhomelang said the idea was to highlight Batswana ‘celebrities’ who were doing it for themselves.

He said celebrities could inspire young people to achieve goals beyond their immediate community.

“They can motivate teens to engage with community causes and live a healthy lifestyle. Their impact is not limited to success stories,” he said, adding that it was about time Batswana appreciated them.

He said celebrities through the different sectors contributed to the economy of the country. 

In a way, their careers attracted global audiences, he said.

He also hailed sponsors among them Clicks stores for heeding the call.At the same event, Music Promoter Zenzele Hirschfeld was honoured for her contribution to the country’s creative industry for more than two decades.

Tlhomelang said by celebrating Hirschfeld, they were acknowledging how she had been able to inspire future generations to pursue their talents to become the next wave of creators and innovators.

For his part, the area Councillor Arthur Tabane said the time was now to honour individuals who were excelling.

“Botswana celebrities such as actors, comedians, musicians, and artists play an important role as they are ambassadors who can change perceptions, initiate conversations and influence societal norms and values through their work and platforms,” he said.

Cllr Tabane also encouraged the nominees to diversify to prepare for rainy days when their craft or content was no longer appealing. ENDS
