Motion picture College AWIL, will on Friday host the 6th annual Film Festival to showcase films produced by the school’s graduating class at the New Capitol Cinema in Riverwalk, Gaborone.

In an interview, the film and television course coordinator at AWIL Kaone Mosenyi said the festival, considered a film premier, was a red carpet event that also aims to create opportunities for the graduating class.

“Before a student can graduate with a Degree at AWIL College, they should have showcased a film at a local cinema before an audience,” she said.

Films to be screened include Downfall which is produced by Riyard Tshambani, written and directed by Obakeng Molebatsi and Aron Kedisitse.

Another film to watch is #Botspunk, produced by Tuelo Modise and written and directed by Jonathan Lysons. Also on the schedule is What If the sun dies, a film produced by Goitsemang Chalumbila, written and directed by Lebone Molebatsi

Mosenyi added that the audience was also part of the students’ assessment, as they would get to fill audience response forms to give their opinion on the films.

She said the school’s previous festivals have been successful, drawing attendance from experts in the film industry who have shown interest in students’ works.

“We have managed to fill up the auditoriums to capacity. We also invite potential employers because this is where they can identify students that they can hire,” Mosinyi said.

However, this time, only three films would be showcased as determined by the student population at that moment and Mosenyi said this was the lowest number considering that in the past, they have had six to eight films. She said the festival starts at 5pm with red carpet moments where students would get to interact with the audience and answer questions from the media. The first film screening commences at 6pm, with the second at 7pm and the last screening at 8pm. ENnds
