Creative industry players prepare for Makgabaneng arts festival

Makgabaneng International Creative Arts festival (MICAF), which provides a platform for artistes to network and showcase their talent, will be held in Gaborone on October 27 - 29.
Briefing the media at the National Museum in Gaborone, the executive director for MICAF, Tony Buru said the objectives of the festival was to help the creative industry to attract funding opportunities for their craft.
Buru said MICAF was also helpful in transforming the local creative and cultural sector by nurturing creative industry, ensuring excellence and preserving the nation’s rich cultural traditions.
He encouraged Batswana to partake in the festival and learn about various aspects of the creative industry and network with the industry giants.
For her part, one of the artiste who attended last year’s MICAF event, Norma Nlanda said when sharing her experience that great knowledge was imparted and new market doors opened through the workshop they attended.
“I met the South African actress, Lusanda Mbane, who through sharing my work on her Instagram account opened doors for a lot of customers, thus empowering my business,” said Nlanda.
MICAF representative, Matlhogonolo Motshegwa said the festival would also feature an interaction of women leaders and aspiring women leaders from all spectrums aimed at educating, sharing, motivating and inspiring.
“Last year, the interaction gave the women a platform to converse in a relaxed atmosphere, sharing experience on different dimensions, with the creative space as a model for business. Women will learn how to balance the everyday duties at home as well as the creative industry business,” she said.
Further, she said at the end of the interaction session, a WhatsApp group would be set up with the key role of holding each other accountable for the goals set and for checking on each other on the different avenues of pursuit.
Another MICAF representative, Obonye Malope said there would be three categories for movies; students, animation and drama/ documentary categories.
The first prize will be P10 000, second prize will be P7 000 whilethe third prize will be P5 000 for all the categories.
One prize of P2 000 will go to the movie chosen by the audience. Ends
