Miss Philanthropy appeals for sponsorship

06 Jun 2023

Miss Philanthropy Botswana 2022/23 Pearl Ojahile is appealing for sponsorship to enable her to perform her charity works as a fulfilment to participate at the Ms Philanthropy Africa pageant finale billed for Mauritius from October 9 to 23.

Ojahile said in an interview on Wednesday that according to the pageant rules, the queens are expected to have completed 12 tasks assigned to them by the international organisers of the Miss Philanthropy Africa Initiative.

She said so far she was on her fifth task which entailed collecting pre-loved clothes from the public for a donation to the less privileged. She said as one of her projects, she has identified four kids that have not done well in their junior certificate examinations and reached out for assistance among them Maun Academy tutors.

Ojahile said the academy had absorbed the learners in their programmes in a bid to improve their academics.  “Miss Philanthropy is all about giving back to the community and showing compassion and empathy towards one another, it brings support and empowers the less privileged in the community,” she said adding that she has also engaged in litter picking campaigns to promote clean communities.

Ojahile won the title online last year after auditioning for the pageant which focuses on grooming youth to remain relevant and rise up to leadership in the society. “I auditioned online since there are no organizers for this pageant in Botswana and I scooped the crown, and since October we have been working on different tasks of which I am doing task five of twelve,” she said.  The 31-year-old born and bred in Mmadinare started her pageantry journey when she was eight-years-old and had since then competed for different titles including Miss Health Living Francistown in 2014.   She was crowned Miss Francistown 2015/2016 and Miss Mmadinare 2018/2019.

She appreciated support from family members, friends, Joyous Celebration Centre, Love Botswana, Queen Esther, Sense of Africa, Getty Corner, Asa Macdonalds and Happy Soul Photography.  One can visit the Ms Philanthropy Africa website at https://missphilanthropyafrica.org/ to vote and support Ojahile.
