27 Apr 2023

A Motswana living in New Zealand is making a name for herself as a model and an extra on Netflix movies.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Masego Wilfred said as part of her modelling career, she walked on the ramp during a multi-cultural bride and groom fashion show in March this year. She said the event was meant to promote designs by New Zealand designers and other nationals living there.

“I started my modelling career by doing New Zealand Fashion 2019 and have displayed the designs of a designer called Genevieve under Adhla Lenzo Design and also for a L’Oreal competition,” she said.

Wilfred said the company she was modelling for won the L’Oreal New Zealand makeup artist of the year in 2019.

She said her modelling portfolio also included working with a brand called Passionate Natural, which is a natural hair products company owned by a Zimbabwean.

“I am the model for her products as well as an ambassador,” Wilfred said.

She has also worked with a Filipino designer Ruscoe Kirby for his brand and is also the face of Starlitt a company that makes sustainable shower caps, as well as natural shower products.

Wilfred said modelling had opened many doors, revealing that this week, she will be featured on season two of the Netflix series; Sweet Tooth, where she is an extra for various roles.

She said in one episode she was part of a group of people on strike, while on another, she is part of group dancing at a party.

She said she was signed under Noir Agency in 2021 and had a lot of offers from Netflix productions such as Choose Love, Our Flag Means Death, One of us is Lying and prime show like Megan.

Her advice to creatives in Botswana is to get out of their comfort zones and to go to other countries like New Zealand and Australia so as to gain experience and come back to grow the industry in Botswana. ENDS
