Mother’s Day celebrations have evolved with time as the day is no longer about simply treating mothers to a day off or buying them gifts.

Nowadays the day offers an opportunity to bring together mothers and experts to share nuggets of information on how to thrive through challenges in today’s world.

Looking at the importance of such engagements, Exquisitely Boity, an events company of the duo Boitumelo Keoagile and Phemelo Minja has therefore organised a Mother’s Day Breakfast scheduled for Park 27 in Gaborone on May 13. Keoagile said the event would not only honour and celebrate motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. She said the event is meant to instill survival skills and champion efforts towards better health, welfare, peace, and love through varied topics that focus on mental health.

“We live in the dire time of mental health situations and it is vital to engage women and raise more awareness on such issues as we come with solutions,” Keoagile noted.

She said the morning session would be centred around discussions on mental health, financial and thought leadership, parenting siblings after parents passed on, blended families, raising disabled children and coping with it as well as personal branding.

Keoagile said most women often lose their individuality when they become mothers, which sometimes leads to depression. “As someone who came out of depression, I will also be sharing with fellow mothers that it is okay to ask for help when you are overwhelmed,” she said.

Minja added that the event would also address issues of womanhood and parenting through speakers who will educate women on the joys of motherhood and accept changes in their bodies once they enter the motherhood stage.

She also stressed the importance of present mothers in the lives of the children. She said despite being a career woman, mothers need to find time and balance for their little ones.

Tickets for the Mother’s Day Breakfast are sold at P350 standard ticket, P550 VIP and there is also a corporate ticket for 10 people per table. The VIP and corporate ticket comes with a goodie bag, which mostly has books. “We included more books as we want to encourage people to read so that they are empowered,” Keoagile noted.

Always celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year, Mother’s Day is a holiday in the United States, and it was born essentially as a women’s movement to better the lives of mothers. ENDS
